One of the best things about the New Year is the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Even though this switch from year to year is largely symbolic, it presents us with a time to reconsider the past 365 days and plan ways to make the next 365 even better. Wherever you stand on actually going through with your big, bold plans for the New Year, there’s something magical about this second chance and the idea of making resolutions to better yourself.
As we prepare our own resolutions for the New Year, we’d love to know yours! Let us know what your goals are— on Instagram! Make a drawing, collage or design describing one of your resolutions and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag#DSresolutions2013. We’ll post our favorites on the website in the New Year !!
In this ongoing collaboration between make-up artist Valeriya Kutsan and Russian photographer Alexander Khokhlov, the faces of models are seemingly transformed from three dimensional paintings and designs using face paint. The first series of black and white photos titled Weird Beauty was released last year, and the duo brought on digital artist Veronica Ershova who helped retouch a new collection of images inspired by poster art titled 2D or not 2D. These new color images seem to have a bit more digital assistance but are still amazing to look at. See much more here.
Every year I methodically save images and links starting in October and have to stop myself when my initial selections hit 400. This year it was nearly impossible to narrow it down to fewer than 100 decorations, but I just made it. There are few things more fun than decorating a holiday table, tree or vignette, so I’ve done my best to include as many ideas for ornaments, garland, tree toppers, wreaths, tree skirts and lights as I could. There’s something for every style and budget in here, so I hope you’ll find something that suits your holiday style.
